| Harold Allen may be semi-retired from the pro bass circuit, but he’s still a very busy man. From his appearance schedule to his gig of covering the Bassmaster Elite Series Tour on Basszone.com, Harold hasn’t slowed down a licks worth. So, when we contacted him about appearing on Ultimate Match Fishing, he went straight to his calendar. “Boys”’ Harold said, “I’ll be cuttin’ her short but I can make it over to Lanier. Might have to drive all night to get in a day of practice but I’m fired up to play and I guarantee you me and Roland will put on one heck of a show for y’all.” And that’s exactly what they did. Even with limited practice, Harold Allen gave Roland Martin more than he could handle on Lake Lanier and in the end, sent the Great American Angler packing with 14.03 pounds of Lanier spots and largemouths. Roland Martin didn’t go down without a fight however. His limit of 10.59 pounds came early on in the match after Harold Allen won the coin toss then deferred to Roland in the first quarter. “Yeah, that was definitely on purpose” added Allen. “With my limited practice, I wanted to see what Roland had going on and then try to build on it.” “My fish were there early” said Roland Martin, “but the wind muddied up a couple of my pockets in the afternoon and that really shut the bite down for me.” The real key however was Harold Allen’s ability to land fish from the back of the boat in the first quarter on Roland Martin’s water. “I really tried to pick apart the water the best I could.” “I’d watch every cast Roland made then try to present my bait a little differently or in a spot he missed. You can’t cover every square inch of water from the front so there’s always a spot or two that can hold a fish and I was lucky enough to find them.” Added Martin, “I just love this concept and I really wanted to do well but Harold, he’s sharp, you can’t get much past him; He’s been playing this game for almost as long as I have and my hats off to him. He did a great job.” Harold Allen now moves on to the quarterfinal round on Arkansas’ Lake Dardanelle. This week, find out who’ll join Harold Allen as two of the top FLW tour pros go head-to-head. Andy Morgan and Dan Morehead are more than just competitors, they are also best of friends so it could get very interesting this week on Ultimate Match Fishing. |
