| 48. That’s the total number of UMF matches I’ve had the privilege to witness first hand from the water. And now that Ultimate Match Fishing is set to enter Season 4, I’m more excited than ever because this year, I feel we have the most solid line-up of professional bass anglers ever assembled in one place for any competition, period. Let’s start with the legends…the true icons of the sport. Mr. Roland Martin, the Great American Angler himself will compete this season. Next to Roland we have another legend and a personal hero of mine, Mr. Harold Allen. Just these two gentlemen alone would be enough to draw a crowd, but for Season 4 of Ultimate Match Fishing, it’s just the beginning. First up, our FLW pros. Scott Martin, who along with father Roland will mark the first time we have had a father and son tandem appear in the competition. Then add in David Walker, Andy Morgan, Dave Lefebre and Dan Morehead and you start to get an idea of just how competitive this season will be. But wait; don’t forget about the stout line-up of BASS Elite Series competitors. There’s our returning champion Boyd Duckett, who also won the Bassmaster Classic and a Bassmaster Major event last year. Former Classic Champion and 3-time Angler of the Year Mark Davis will join Kelly Jordon, Byron Velvick and Ish Monroe to round out the field. And what a field it is. So after 48 days on the water watching some of the best professional anglers in the history of the sport battle head-to-head, one-on-one in such a unique competitive format, I have to tell you that each match has been memorable. Sure, some stand out a little more than others. Rick Clunn going against Kevin Van Dam in Season 1; Gerald Swindle and Mike Iaconelli was an instant classic; Luke Clausen and Timmy Horton battling it out on Lake Guntersville in the Season 2 Championship was astonishing; even the notorious match between Clausen and Brent Erhler stands out. And who can forget the absolute slugfest between Kelly Jordon and Boyd Duckett that came down to .04 of a pound for the Championship last season? This season there are more memorable moments, more critical casts, more strategy and more drama than ever before, including something that has never been seen on UMF. So don’t miss a second of the action this season and I’ll see you there for each and every cast, each fish and what will go down as the most intense season of Ultimate Match Fishing ever. |
